About the Zionsville Area Food Pantry
In response to the economic downturn, the housing mortgage crisis, and the rise in unemployment, leadership in the Lutheran, United Church of Christ, Mennonite, Methodist, and Evangelical Congregational faith communities in the Zionsville area began to discuss how we might help to impact those in our community who have been effected by job loss, loss of income, demanding fuel costs, and the challenges of our time. Hence, the Zionsville Area Food Pantry opened its doors in May 2009.
Some Frequently Asked Questions?
Where is the food pantry located?
The Zionsville Area Food Pantry is located at Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Old Zionsville, PA. It is the church with the great white steeple, on top of the hill, across the street from the Old Zionsville Post Office.
Who operates the food pantry?
The Zionsville Area Food Pantry is supported financially through contributions from the aforementioned congregations as well as individuals from the community who believe in what we are doing. It is staffed by volunteers from these faith communities who collect food, stock shelves, interview clients, bag and sort groceries, and much more. Food is provided by individuals, organizations, and businesses or is purchased through financial contributions given by supportive individuals and families.
How much food is received in an order?
We estimate that the amount of food given would feed a family for approximately three days. These are non-perishable food items. We do not supply any refrigerated or frozen items. We do have a limited amount of infant supplies and personal care items upon request.
How do I know if I qualify to receive food?
If you live in the Upper Milford area and are struggling, whether a little or a lot financially, you qualify. We want no one to go hungry. You will be required to sign the Pennsylvania "Self-Declaration of Need" form. We will ask you to fill out a brief Pertinent Information Form, ask you how many are in your family (children, adults [14 +], senior [65 +]), and that should be all.
